Welcome to SERG
Sustainable Energy Resource Group (SERG) is a tax-exempt
501(c)(3) organization that promotes
energy conservation, efficiency and renewables through the formation of
town energy committees to help residents, businesses and the
municipalities reduce energy consumption, save money, increase the
sustainable use of renewables, strengthen the local economy and improve
the environment.
We have helped form and are consulting with Town Energy Committees
in numerous Vermont and New Hampshire communities. We are supporting
the efforts of these groups and working to form additional committees in
other Vermont and New Hampshire towns.
SERG Goals
- Increase community awareness of and participation in energy issues
- Reduce fossil fuel consumption and associated pollution
- Increase use of local renewable sources of energy
- Decrease overall energy expenditures
- Increase circulation of energy dollars locally
SERG Objectives
- Form and consult with town energy committees
- Write, review and improve town energy plans
- Determine and analyze town energy consumption
- Develop and implement energy conservation, efficiency and renewables programs
- Recruit and train volunteers
- Educate and involve the public
- Review program effectiveness, make improvements, and expand model to additional towns
Home Energy Program
SERG has developed a traveling briefcase containing energy efficient
light bulbs and information on energy saving programs and appliances
that trained volunteers will carry it door to door in town to:
- Assist homeowners in ordering compact fluorescent bulbs & other conservation products
- Conduct a "Residential Energy Survey" to determine types,
sources and costs of energy used and conservation and efficiency
opportunities
- Test appliance efficiency with wattmeter and provide info on new efficient appliances
- Provide information on conservation, efficiency and renewables programs
- Click here to learn more.
Additional Energy Programs
- Button UP Home Energy Saving Workshops
- NEW SERG Energizer Alliance
- Educate communities about impending energy policy issues
- Promote high performance municipal, professional and residential buildings
- Conduct energy audits and renovations on existing buildings
- Investigate forming energy buying groups in towns
- Investigate bulk buying programs of energy efficient appliances, bulbs, etc.
- Develop a database with conservation, efficiency and renewables program examples and contacts
- Solar Hot Water Workshop Challenge
Some programs will be unique to specific towns depending on their resources and opportunities:
- Methane collection and reuse
- Wind site identification and development
- Biodiesel collection and production
- Cogeneration opportunities
- Develop carpooling sites
SERG is gathering information on existing energy programs and
organizations to share with the public. We are working with other
groups to help develop this exciting grassroots program. If you are
interested in working on, participating in, or contributing to the
project, please contact:
